Abusive Patent Lawsuits Will Not End Without Legislation, Says BSA in Letter to Senate
WASHINGTON, DC —March 18, 2015—
BSA | The Software Alliance today sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee calling for legislation to curb abusive patent litigation practices. Such legislation would lower the cost of patent suits and reduce the financial incentives to file abusive litigation. The letter comes as the Senate Judiciary holds a hearing examining the impact that abusive patent litigation has on the economy.
“There are entirely too many incentives today in the patent system that entice frivolous, abusive lawsuits against innovators,” said BSA President & CEO Victoria Espinel. “It’s clear that Congressional action is still needed to curb these abuses. We strongly support Chairman Grassley, Ranking Member Leahy, and the Judiciary Committee’s efforts to end patent abuse and look forward to working closely with members of both the Senate and House to pass a strong bill.”
